How Sweet it is to be Heard by You!

Valentine’s Day means love is in the air and couples are taking the opportunity to enjoy a romantic evening with each other. Restaurants are super busy and clothing stores advertise the best new outfits to make an impression. Business is booming while the affection is blooming! It’s a great opportunity to show your significant other how much you care.

Restaurants are super busy and clothing stores advertise the best new outfits to make an impression. Business is booming while the affection is blooming! It’s a great opportunity to show your significant other how much you care.

Unfortunately, the holiday can be more stressful for people with hearing loss. There’s nothing more frustrating than trying to pay attention to your loved one but not being able to hear them. The business of this holiday may make it seem pointless to go on a date for the hearing-challenged. You don’t have to stay home simply because of your hearing loss (although it’s fine if that’s what you prefer).

Planning Ahead

As with most things, preparation is crucial. Watching out for small details can make the difference between a night to remember and a date you’d rather forget! The most important thing is to try to choose a venue that won’t be too crowded. The more stars a restaurant has, the more likely it is that it’ll be full to the brim on Valentine’s Day. Try a smaller place, one that has significance for you both, whenever possible.

You should also consider the atmosphere of the restaurant in question. Some places cater to a younger, more boisterous crowd, while others encourage a more laid-back feeling. Certain places may play loud music or have several televisions running at the same time. Try to choose a location that will be quieter and calmer, so you can focus on your time together.

Once you have a few locations in mind, dig a little deeper. Call or meet with the owner or manager and ask a few questions about their average business on Valentine’s Day. First, find out what their peak dining hours are. If you can avoid the crowded times, the restaurant will be much quieter. You can also ask about seat reservations. A spot in a corner or against a wall will help reflect sound waves and make it easier to hear your date.

It’s also a good idea to consider alternative options. If it’s warm enough, a romantic picnic makes an incredible choice. Think about what you and your significant other enjoy doing and go from there. Whether you’re eating out or not, the most important thing is for the two of you to have fun together.

Adding Activities

You don’t have to stop at dinner for your romantic day. You can enjoy many other activities. Try unconventional things like bowling, skating, painting, or just going for a drive. The movies are an option too, but they’re more likely to be noisy and distracting. If you want to see a film, try watching one at home with a bottle of wine. You can even turn on captions to keep the volume lower and invite more conversation. Choosing a more personal activity means you’ll have more time to enjoy your significant other’s company.

And of course, the most important thing of all is to have fun!
